CASA GRANDE — After starting as a part-time employee in the city’s parks department and working her way up to be a city planner, Laura Blakeman is ready to retire after more than 30 years of service to Casa Grande.

“I love Casa Grande. I grew up in Casa Grande and went to school here,” Blakeman said. “I wanted to finish my career here at the city because Casa Grande is my hometown.”

Blakeman said her last day with the city will be Wednesday.

“Laura is one of those unique individuals who spends her entire career with the same organization …. a rare occurrence these days,” said Planning and Development Director Paul Tice.

Blakeman said she started her journey with the city back in 1988 when as a high school student she took a part-time job helping run the arts and crafts table at the city’s summer camp programs at Len Colla Recreation Center.
