Huge interest in Gilbert Town Council appointment as 105 apply; pool narrowed to 8

More than 100 Gilbert residents applied to fill a vacancy on the Town Council, and local leaders on Thursday whittled the list to eight.

Town Council members are expected to interview the finalists publicly on March 17 and then select an appointment. The others will get first consideration for two more vacancies that could come within the next month.  

The first task is to fill former Councilman Eddie Cook’s seat. Cook resigned in February when he was appointed to the post of Maricopa County assessor. However, council members Jordan Ray and Brigette Peterson are expected to resign in the next month to run for justice of the peace and mayor, respectively.
