If grocery clerks are essential to state operations, why isn’t Arizona’s Legislature?

The Arizona Legislature isn’t coming back into session next week.

Our leaders were supposed to return on Monday, but this week House Speaker Rusty Bowers and Senate President Karen Fann extended their hiatus until … well, nobody knows.

I never thought I would say this, but … what a shame.

The Legislature fled the Capitol last month with a fair amount of unfinished business.

While it’s understandable that legislators don’t want to return to the state Capitol just yet, their jobs are – and I can’t believe I’m saying this – “essential” to the operations of the state right now.

Several deadlines are looming and Arizonans need relief.
