More than 254,300 new unemployment claims have been filed in Arizona the last 4 weeks, according to new data today from the U.S. Department of Labor and Economic Policy Institute.
The most recent unemployment data is for the week ending April 4. It shows 132,189 new weekly unemployment insurance claims in Arizona as the COVID-19 pandemic closing businesses and prompts furloughs and layoffs.
Nationally, there were 6.6 million new unemployment insurance claims filed last week, according to the new data. The $2 trillion federal stimulus program in response to the Coronavirus offers unemployment benefits to the impacted workers.
For the most recent 4-week period, there have been 2.27 million new unemployment claims in California, 479,145 in Florida, 806,112 in New York, 539,850 in Georgia and 761,619 in Texas, according to DOL and EPI.
