Local educator Jeff Lavender has thrown his hat into the ring for city council. Monday was the last day for candidates to turn in their petition signatures to the city clerk to run for council or mayor, but there will be no contest.

Lavender is one of three candidates for the three open seats on the council. The other two are incumbents Lisa Navarro Fitzgibbons and Donna McBride. Councilwoman Mary Kortsen is not seeking another term in office.

Mayor Craig McFarland is running unopposed this year for another term as mayor.

“I am running for the Casa Grande City Council to offer my assistance in developing/enhancing a mission and vision for Casa Grande to support our city in moving forward during these challenging times,” Lavender stated in an email.
