A Democratic mainstay in Arizona politics has announced that the upcoming re-election campaign for Pinal County supervisor will be his last.
Pete Rios of Dudleyville announced through his district administrator that should he win re-election this year, it will be for his fourth and final term on the board. He is running against Ruben Leos of Picacho in the Democratic primary. There is no Republican running for the seat.
Rios’ political career has spanned decades, as he had two separate stints in the state Senate. The first was from 1983-1995 and included a year as Senate president from 1991-1992. After an unsuccessful run for Arizona secretary of state, he returned to the Senate from 1997 until 2005 and was in the state House until 2009, when he became a supervisor.
