The Goodyear City Council will hold an executive session Friday evening on whether to institute a mask order in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other cities are or are considering mandating masks in public spaces after Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey issued an order allowing localities to mandate masks.
Arizona has 43,443 cases statewide with 23,880 of them in Maricopa County.
“I know these have been challenging times for so many people, especially those who are fighting the virus. Some of them are people who I know personally,” said Mayor Georgia Lord. “We all want life to return to normal and we must do our part to protect ourselves and others. I would hope that everyone would recognize the importance of bearing personal responsibility to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.”

While Goodyear considers its options, city is encouraging residents to wear masks in public when social distancing can’t be insured.
