Arizona cities are moving to institute mandatory mask orders after Governor Doug Ducey issued an order allowing them to take local actions to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The town of Gilbert and city of Glendale will hold special meetings Friday on whether to institute mandatory mask orders to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
The Chandler City Council will hold a special meeting on a mask mandate later today.
Some cities such as Phoenix, Tempe, Tolleson, Flagstaff and Tucson are moving ahead with requiring masks be worn in public places after Ducey issued an order yesterday allowing cities and counties to institute such mandates.
Phoenix will hold its mask vote on Friday, according to Mayor Kate Gallego.
The city of Scottsdale issued a statement saying it was studying the issue.
Arizona has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases. There are now 43,443 COVID cases statewide with 2,519 new ones added today, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services. The agency reports 1,271 deaths from the Coronavirus including 32 new deaths reported today.
