Phoenix could gate off alleys near downtown shelters

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The Phoenix City Council is scheduled to vote tomorrow on expanding the city’s Gated Alley Program to add gates around the Human Services Campus in downtown Phoenix.

The moved would gate off 10 additional alleys with 20 gates. The cost is $98,100.

Human Services Campus is located near 12th Avenue and Madison Street. The gates aim to cut down on graffiti, homeless camps and criminal activity in the area.

Phoenix launched the gated alley program in 2017 to cut down on vandalism, graffiti, illegal trash dumping and other activities in alleys. Other cities have also tried gated alleys for similar reasons.
