Residents fight for rural way of life as Glendale annexes near Loop 303

Jami Byrne wakes up each morning to the sight of thousands of roses growing across the street. She can see for miles, all the way to the Estrella Mountains.

Byrne and her husband bought their Waddell home nearly 10 years ago for the pastoral views.

“We loved that about the area, being surrounded by farmland, because you simply can’t find that anymore,” she said. “It’s slowly — or, in our case, quickly — disappearing right in front of us.”
