Goodyear approves ‘Historic’ zoning change

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The Goodyear City Council has approved zoning amendments for homes in the Historic Goodyear area and other older neighborhoods.

The changes apply to homes and neighborhoods built before 1975 including the Historic Goodyear neighborhood south of Van Buren Street and west of Central Avenue.

The changes allow carports, and shade structures in Historic Goodyear and other older subdivisions such as Litchfield Manor and Goodyear Estates. The aim is to encourage more parking in driveways instead of parking on the street.

The city also updated rules related to fences and walls in older neighborhoods. The changes allow chain links fences but with opaque screening.

The changes bring older homes and neighborhoods into conformity with city zoning codes and also look to encourage repairs and renovations by homeowners.
