A sand and gravel pit operator wants to expand its operations in the West Valley next to Glendale Municipal Airport.
Phoenix Cement has submitted rezoning applications with the city of Glendale to rezone 55 acres as part of the expansion and another 160 acres where it currently operates to extend its mining operations until 2038.
The property is located at 11401 West Glendale Avenue.
Phoenix Cement has operated at the site for 6 years and bought the 215-acre site from the previous landlord.
The company is asking for the 55 acres to be including in a Special Use District for the pit operations and for the extension of its Special Use District of the property to be extended five years until 2038.
