Passenger counts down but air freight up at Sky Harbor Airport

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to take a toll on travel and tourism.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport reported a 71.2 percent drop in passenger traffic in June.

The Phoenix airport saw just over 1.1 million passengers last month down from 3.83 million passengers in June 2019.

Passengers counts for the year are now down by 49.1 percent (11.99 million for 2020 so far versus 23.55 million for the first six months of 2019).

Air cargo, however, is up at Sky Harbor.

In June, the airport saw 32,073 tons of freight in June up 13.6 percent from 28,241 tons in June 2019.
