Planning Commission considers golf course redevelopment

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The Glendale Planning Commission will consider plans at its meeting today to rezone the Glen Lakes golf course for a new residential development.

The city of Glendale owns the property at 55th Avenue and Northern Avenue.

Plans calls for Homes by Towne to build 173 single-family homes on the 42.8-acre site.

The golf course opened in 1966 and was bought by the city of Glendale in 1979. The Glendale City Council approved sale of the golf course to the home builder last year.

Plans call for development of 173 homes and a community park on the former golf course. The land is currently zoned for open space and parks and agricultural uses and needs to be changed to residential categories for the planned housing.
