All five seats on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors are up for election this year — and all but one seat is competitive.
Maricopa County is governed by five district supervisors. The board oversees regional issues related to land use, the judicial system and public health.
The supervisor position is highly coveted by Arizona politicos. Former county supervisors include former Congressman Ed Pastor and former Gov. Jan Brewer.
The primary election will be held Aug. 4. Early voting and vote-by-mail begins July 8.
One Republican and one Democrat will move on to the general election on Nov. 3 in the contested races.
