Arizona gives OK for bars, gyms, theaters and water parks to reopen in metro Phoenix

Gyms, theaters, water parks and bars that serve food could reopen in metro Phoenix and some other Arizona counties on Thursday.

The Arizona Department of Health Services updated its data dashboard at 9 a.m., and the metrics show that businesses in Maricopa and Pima counties may reopen, albeit at a limited capacity.

DHS has an explanation of its complex benchmarking system, and a list of which category each county is in, online at www.azdhs.gov.

If the county a business is in moves to the “moderate” or yellow category of COVID-19 spread, the businesses closed by Gov. Doug Ducey’s executive order June 29 no longer need special approval to reopen.
