A Scottsdale rock climbing gym — AZ On The Rocks — has gained state approval to reopen thanks to COVID-19 procedures it developed with HealthyVerify Certification (HVC).

The Arizona Department of Health Services has approved AZ On The Rocks reopening application making it one of the first fitness centers allowed to reopen after a court challenges to Gov. Doug Ducey’s COVID closure orders.

HealthyVerify helps businesses, schools and workplaces develop and implement best practices that go above and beyond the U.S. Centers for Disease Control’s COVID guidelines.

HVC client Kevin J. Berk, owner of AZ on the Rocks Rock Climbing Gym talks to channel 10 about his HVC certification and being permitted to reopen.

Scottsdale-based HVC helped AZ On The Rocks with its health safety procedures and its successful application with the state of Arizona to reopen its gym.

AZ On the Rocks implemented HealthyVerify recommend protocols in May and it did not have to make any substantial changes to its reopening bid, according to owner Kevin J. Berk.

“AZ on the Rocks is committed to creating a safe environment for our employees and our customers and with HealthyVerify’s help we demonstrated our commitment to health and safety to the state of Arizona,” Berk said.  “We are grateful we chose HealthyVerify and that its work has helped us be one of the first gyms in Arizona to reopen and the only gym to reopen without having to modify the procedures it put in place prior to the shutdown.”

HealthyVerify Certification is the only independent medically based, scientific, and professional certification company in the U.S. helping reduce the risk of COVID-19.

The Arizona Department of Health Services’ approved AZ On The Rocks’ application to re-open on August 18th. Berk said his rock climbing gym is reopening this morning to existing members only for now.

The HVC protocols and best practices for AZ On The Rocks include frequent air filter changes, temperature checks, frequent equipment cleaning, specialized scheduling, and other measures.

HVC partners with infectious disease experts from the Barrow Neurological Institute and researchers at Arizona State University to reduce the risk of spreading infectious diseases including COVID-19.

HealthyVerify has certified dozens of businesses, non-profits, and schools across the country.

HVC certified organizations include AZ On the Rocks, national real estate firm Offerpad, Avondale Elementary School District, the Phoenix Rising Football Club, Fowler Elementary School District, the City of Goodyear, the spring training home of the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds, Jewish Family and Children’s Services and many more.
