90% of jobs created in Luke AFB expansion will be in 4 Valley cities

About 90% of the defense-related jobs created in the region by the projected expansion of the Luke Air Force Base will be in Glendale, Surprise, Goodyear and Avondale, according to a growth plan unveiled Sept. 23 by the Maricopa Association of Governments.

The targeted growth management plan drafted by the Maricopa Associations of Governments in partnership with Luke Air Force Base focuses on how the region — within a 20-minute drive of the base — will accommodate projections that the population related to the base will grow to nearly 24,000 people and grow the local defense economy by 25%.
