Ducey spends big to help GOP candidates as Democrats seek control of Legislature

The governor is using his fundraising prowess to help Republicans and attack Democrats running in five legislative districts across Arizona

Clashes over business closures, face masks and the state’s social safety net have made for some rocky relationships between Gov. Doug Ducey and Republican lawmakers this year.

But when it comes to November’s legislative races — and the Democrats nipping at the heels of Republicans in both chambers — Ducey is putting party first. 

Two political action committees associated with the governor spent nearly $200,000 over the past three months trying to help the GOP hold on to seats in legislative districts Democrats believe they can flip, campaign finance records show.
