Goodyear landed a huge employer in Nike before the new coronavirus swept away those multimillion-dollar plans.

The athletic apparel giant wouldn’t just open a distribution center, which are common in the suburbs west of Phoenix, but a manufacturing plant that would create 500 jobs.Nike only has two other manufacturing facilities in the U.S.
It seemed Goodyear, a city of some 85,000 residents along Interstate 10, was on a roll when Nike’s plans were unveiled in July 2019. Money Magazine, months later, would name Goodyear one of the 50 best places to live in the U.S.
