State Rep. Lorenzo Sierra, D-Avondale, is in intensive care and was intubated at a Baltimore hospital following complications related to COVID-19, Arizona House Democrats said Monday.
The lawmaker and his wife, Rhonda Cagle, both began exhibiting symptoms of the virus while they were visiting family in Washington, D.C., in late September.
Sierra said at the time they had tested negative before traveling but that he was told to assume they both had COVID-19 until receiving new test results.
A spokesperson for the House Democrats said Sierra was hospitalized Sunday evening in Washington and on Monday morning was taken to The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he was intubated.
