Richard Carrier said he moved into an Asante home in March 2018 and was told a Fry’s grocery store was in talks to build in the northwest Surprise area, along with other big anchor stores.
Tamara Becerra arrived in the community May 2018. In a Facebook interview, she said she received no promises of grocery or restaurants, but heard Fry’s had thought about coming to 163rd and Pat Tillman. It did not pan out.
Kevin Rhea heard the same thing when his family purchased their Asante home in May 2017.
“At that time, we were told by the Lennar rep that Fry’s was going to build a grocery store, restaurants and other retail at 163rd and Pat Tillman as soon as there were 4,000 rooftops within a one-square-mile area. Obviously we have exceeded that number already and still nothing,” Mr. Rhea said in a Facebook interview. “Traveling to shopping and dining can be a major headache since there is only one way in and out of the area (through 163rd and Grand). There has been a QT gas station that has been planned for the west side of Grand at 163rd and has been in planning since June 2019.”
