Phoenix delays decision on greyhound lease

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The Phoenix City Council has delayed a vote to extend the lease at the former greyhound racing track near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

The council was scheduled to vote on a five-year lease extension with American Greyhound Inc. at the property at 3801 East Washington Street.

American Greyhound operates a swap meet at the city owned property.

But the council opted to put off that real estate deal until its Jan. 20 meeting

American Greyhound is seeking a five-year lease extension with the city. The extension also clarifies boundaries for the property.

The city projects it will receive $4.77 million in revenue from the lease total over the proposed five-year term.

Dog racing closed at the track in 2009. The state banned dog racing in 2016.
