Demolition is underway on the old Glen Lakes Golf Course, which is slated for a new housing development, in Glendale.
Crews using a pair of excavators last week tore trees out of the ground at the closed golf course, which is now fenced off from the street. Plans call for 173 homes to be built on the former golf course north of Northern Avenue between 55th and 53rd avenues.
The City Council in October voted 6-1 to approve the plans needed for housing to replace the long-standing city-owned golf course. Councilmember Bart Turner, whose district includes the property, cast the lone vote against the plans, which he called “a crying shame.”
