Just after 2 p.m. Jan. 12, Scottsdale’s four newly-elected leaders took the oath of office to represent their beloved community.

In a private, outdoor inauguration ceremony held on the lawns at Scottsdale City Hall, David “Dave” Ortega was sworn-in as mayor while Tammy Caputi, Tom Durham and Betty Janik were sworn-in as new City Council members. The group joins continuing council members Kathy Littlefield, Linda Milhaven and Vice Mayor Solange Whitehead.

Hon. Maria Elena Cruz, of Arizona’s Court of Appeals Level One administered the oath of office to each elected official. The event — streamed live virtually for about 30 minutes with public comments from the new council members — carried a shared theme of working toward a brighter future.
