During what has historically been Scottsdale’s most anticipated, and fun, season drawing thousands of visitors, the city is already more than $4 million behind in its typical bed tax revenue.
As February approaches, news continues to trickle in from Scottsdale’s annual cash cows — Phoenix Open, Barrett-Jackson, Arabian Horse Show, Parada del Sol and spring training — regarding adjusted or changed plans for 2021 amid COVID-19.
In Scottsdale’s latest monthly budget update, which occurred Jan. 19, City Manager Jim Thompson says finances are doing OK, but offers caution as thousands of visitors will not descend upon Scottsdale this year.
