As one of his first actions in office, President Joe Biden issued this executive order: Travelers arriving in the United States by air must have a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours prior to departure or show proof of having recovered from the new coronavirus in the past three months.
It was welcome news to many in the travel industry, as trade groups like U.S. Travel Association and Airlines for America have pushed for testing and mask requirements as avenues to reopen international travel while helping contain the virus.
Many applauded the order even as they criticized some of its details, such as not offering exemptions for countries without testing capabilities and the practicality of the recommended seven-day quarantine upon arrival.
