COVID-19 cases at Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona appear to be stabilizing — or better yet, decreasing — during the past week of classes, according to data released by each institution as of Tuesday.

Positivity rates at ASU and UA decreased, where NAU’s rate didn’t budge from last week’s 4.4%.

However, a recent fraternity party jeopardized ASU’s success in controlling the spread. On Tuesday, ASU officials concluded their investigation of a Jan. 16 party after a photo showing more than 50 people in close proximity with no masks surfaced online.

Former Arizona State University student Sukhmani Singh posted a screenshot a video on Twitter showing dozens of people partying in an ASU fraternity party over the weekend.

According to a university spokesperson, the investigation revealed the party involved the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, which was confirmed after peer review from fellow students, and “consequences have occurred” – including “holding the fraternity accountable while also providing education about the health impact and community impact of their choices.”
