Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers is in the hospital awaiting bypass surgery after visiting an urgent care on Monday and being told he was having a heart attack, he told The Arizona Republic on Wednesday morning.
Weiers, 63, said he was working around his home when his breathing started to feel labored and heavy, so he visited an urgent care. Once staff determined he was having a heart attack, they had to find a Phoenix area hospital with enough capacity for a non-COVID-19 patient, he said.
They sent him to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in central Phoenix.
