Mesa looking at sustainability efforts, discrimination protections

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The Mesa City Council will get updates on Thursday, Feb. 18, on the city’s path forward on sustainability as well as a potential anti-discrimination ordinance offering local protections to LGBT persons.

The council will be briefed on both issues at a study session meeting.

They will be updated on the city’s sustainability efforts and potential step forwards with open space, tree plantings and mitigating heat island effects.

Mesa is also looking at longer-term climate change policies that have been adopted by other cities.

Those policies could impact planning and development.

Mesa is also looking a local anti-discrimination ordinance that could offer protections to LGBTQ individuals.

The ordinance would apply to housing, employment and other arenas.
