More than 2,500 young undocumented Dreamers have applied for DACA in recent months, among them Phoenix university student Daniel Hernandez.
Hernandez was blocked from applying for the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program under the Trump administration, which tried to rescind the program.
The DACA program grants temporary protection from deportation and work permits to undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, known as Dreamers. Trump said the program was unlawful.
“The DACA program has literally changed hundreds of thousands of lives since it’s inception, allowing young adults brought to the United States through no fault of their own to apply for work permits in two year increments upon paying a fee, submitting biometrics, and demonstrating statutory eligibility. The programs return to form following the Supreme Courts favorable ruling this summer has been a welcome development and we are urging clients to file applications regardless of Texas’ continued efforts to challenge the program.”
