Glendale trying again to adjust group home rules

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The City of Glendale is looking at amending its zoning ordinances related to group homes after receiving a complaint about its language from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The proposed changes incorporate “disability accommodations” into Glendale’s ordinances related to group homes.

The city’s ordinance defines a group home as a shared dwelling that is the primary residence of between six and 10 handicapped or disabled persons. The city also requires 1,320 feet between each group home.

The HUD complaint deals with including disability accommodations in the city rules.

Glendale amended the ordinance in December but that did not fully satisfy the HUD complaint.

The city is revisiting the language. It will be discussed and considered by the Glendale Planning Commission at its meeting on March 18.
