Inside Intel’s decision to go big in AZ

The decision by chipmaker Intel Corp. to get back into the foundry business and build two new manufacturing facilities in Arizona with dedicated capacity didn’t just happen overnight.

On March 23, the company said it would spend $20 billion on the new facilities at its Ocotillo Campus in Chandler. CEO Pat Gelsinger said this is just the first manufacturing expansion being rolled out and that other expansions in the U.S. and Europe could be expected later this year.
