State officials discourage suggested Scottsdale zoning

A proposed zoning category called “desert rural neighborhoods” slated to be a part of Scottsdale’s general plan update has received criticism from the state land department.

On March 23, Arizona State Land Department Commissioner Lisa A. Atkins wrote to the Scottsdale City Council regarding the proposed “desert rural” land-use designation.

If approved, the designation would limit areas under this zoning to be large lot, rural lifestyle neighborhoods, which city officials say would be found predominantly in north Scottsdale.
