The Surprise City Council voted to reimburse the owners of a planned storage facility nearly $150,000 for fees as part of an incentive program in the Original Town Site.
But an unhappy council that really had no other choice but to approve a qualifying project plans to look into how it can make sure it doesn’t happen again.
“Let me get this straight: We’re going to be using $150,000 taxpayer dollars to incentivize a storage facility to come to Surprise,” District 5 Councilman Mr. Hastings said at a March 2 council meeting. “This is the most outrageous things I’ve seen since I’ve been here. … I’m at a loss for words.”
