A House Democrat wants Rep. Paul Gosar and two other Republicans investigated over any role they had in instigating the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol.
The move by Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., seeks to begin a reckoning over the Jan. 6 attack by a mob that sought to pressure Congress into setting aside the election results to give former President Donald Trump another term.
In letters to the House Ethics Committee and to the separate Office of Congressional Ethics, Jayapal said Gosar, R-Ariz., “urged supporters to take action against election certification, repeatedly insisting that the election had been stolen and participating in rallies alleging voter fraud.”
Jayapal also seeks probes of Reps. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., and Mo Brooks, R-Ala., both of whom also supported the baseless narrative of election fraud.
She buttressed her request against Gosar with media accounts detailing his participation in “Stop the Steal” rallies organized by Texas resident Ali Alexander. He called Gosar the “spirit animal” of the effort to rally in Washington on the day Congress was required to certify the election results.
