The Gilbert Town Council will consider a plan to expand the University of Arizona’s footprint in the Heritage District.
The university currently leases 15,448 square feet of space at 92 West Vaughn Avenue in the Heritage area for nursing programs, administrative and classroom space under a lease deal approved in 2019.
The University of Arizona’s Gilbert space also includes 2,218 square feet of shell space.
UA wants to build out that shell space as its grows the nursing program at the Gilbert center.
The nursing program started with 24 students and is growing to classes of 72 nursing students that will be admitted to the program three times annually.
The university also employs 28 faculty and staff at the Gilbert center.
The Gilbert Town Council is being asked to approve tenant improvements on the shell space The lease amendment also extends the university’s term and increases its payments to the town for the space.
The item is on the council’s agenda for today’s meeting (March 2).
