Amtrak: All aboard to Phoenix!

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

Amtrak is looking to bring railroad service back to Phoenix as part of expansions and improvement plans that could be helped by President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan package.

The infrastructure package includes $80 billion for railroads.

Amtrak’s plans include linking Phoenix to Tucson and Los Angeles and Riverside. The new rail line would then link to Las Vegas.

Phoenix has not had direct Amtrak service since 1996. Railroads previously had a passenger stop at Union Station in downtown Phoenix.

The Amtrak plans also call for improvements to existing rail routes in the Northeast as well as new and improved connections between Cleveland and Cincinnati, Denver and Colorado Springs, Dallas and Houston as well as New York and northeastern Pennsylvania.
