Surprise parks plan comes into focus

Surprise Vice Mayor Patrick Duffy made improving the city’s recreation and youth sports portfolio his priority since his appointment to the City Council in September 2017.

He has heard plenty about parks and sports tourism and master plans and theoretical discussions of what amenities the city will add, what it would cost and what ways the city could pay for it. He had not heard anything quite like the presentation and discussion about the feasibility of future city parks during the April 6 council work session.

Mr. Duffy said this discussion had a palpable sense of unity of council and staff on the recreation priorities and the urgency to convert 15-year plans into what would be possible to build in the decade or sooner.
