Ahwatukee State Land auction postponed at last minute

The Arizona State Land Department postponed today’s scheduled auction of 373 acres of State Trust Land in Ahwatukee, giving developers and other interested parties until June 7 to do their due diligence on the site.

Located along Chandler Boulevard between 19th and 27th avenues, the sprawling piece of desert could eventually be home to as many as 1,050 single-family houses and an undetermined number of condominium and apartment complexes.

Last-minute postponements have occurred in state land auctions before, often because interested bidders need more time than the 10-week notification period set by statute when the department establishes an auction date. Just a week ago, the department postponed until June 10 auctions of a 1,099-acre parcel in Goodyear and a 946-acre tract in Queen Creek. Minimum bids on those parcels were $127.7 million and $86.1 million, respectively.
