Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has purchased more than 1,100 acres of land near Loop 303 and Carefree Highway for a new multi-billion dollar semiconductor manufacturing facility that could eventually employ thousands of people.
With a wave of supply chain production and associated jobs expected, it stands to be a boon to Peoria’s local economy.
Economic Development Director Rick Buss said with the city only a mile-and-a-half away from the facility at its west end, the business will create a new ecosystem in the West Valley brimming with opportunity for Peoria.
Mr. Buss said 70% to 80% of the semiconductor industry is in its supply chain. So city officials have been recruiting businesses whose products can support the supply chain TSMC will outsource. This includes companies that create products like HVAC, wafers, fabrication and biomedical, as well as construction trades.
