Glendale’s new urban lake to open by winter

By Steve Stockmar | Your Valley

An urban lake in the works for Glendale has taken many years to come to fruition, and now residents will have the chance to enjoy it by this winter.

The city on May 24 officially broke ground on the 4-acre Heroes Regional Park Lake, which will spend the next few months taking shape at the 81-acre park at 8300 W. Bethany Home Road.

Glendale hired a consulting firm to design elements of the park — including a lake — as far back as 2005.

“This is a long time coming. This park has been planned for the community for a couple of decades,” said Jim Burke, director of the city’s Public Facilities, Recreation and Special Events. “We’ve bid it, we’ve got a contract, we’re ready to go.”
