Phoenix is expected to take up the issue of whether to drop its mandate requiring masks in public places and city facilities after new federal guidelines eased mask guidelines for vaccinated people.
Phoenix, and a handful of other Arizona cities and one county, kept their mask rules after Gov. Doug Ducey in late March rolled back many remaining pandemic protocols, including cities’ and counties’ power to enforce local mask mandates.
The Pima County Board of Supervisors rescinded its mask mandate during an emergency meeting on Friday. The supervisors issued a new resolution recommending that people who haven’t gotten the COVID-19 vaccine wear masks when in public and that all people wear masks in certain indoor settings.
The country is in a state of change when it comes to masks as more Americans get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased indoor mask-wearing guidance for fully vaccinated people on Thursday after previously loosening restrictions in outdoor settings.
