Scottsdale will require more parking spaces for new apartments and call centers in an effort to address concerns about a parking shortage in Old Town.
More than 140 business owners and residents petitioned the city last year to require more parking for hotels, offices and apartments, among other requests.
Many of those business owners have older properties in Old Town without on-site parking and are worried new developments are not providing enough parking. Since these shop owners rely on street parking, the concern is that demand for those spots will increase.
The Planning Commission discussed the concerns in April, but voted 5-1 against recommending a proposal to the City Council, saying a comprehensive parking study was needed.
