Zoning board greenlights new Burger King site for Coolidge

COOLIDGE — For the second time in the past year, the Coolidge Planning and Zoning Commission approved a site plan for a new Burger King in the north part of town. This time, residents are hoping it’s not a whopper.

The Burger King would be located along Arizona Boulevard in the north of town, across from the Casa Grande Ruins. The site, just below the Safeway Plaza, is currently empty. According to Coolidge’s GIS coordinator Tim Hansen, the proposed Burger King would have a double drive-thru and the restaurant itself will be a 3,200-square-foot model.

“These poor guys are met with a little bit of skepticism after the last one didn’t happen,” Hansen said, “but we are hoping they prove the naysayers wrong.”

According to development director Brad Flahiff, who was representing San Angelo Realty in bringing the proposal to Coolidge during Wednesday’s meeting, his company thought it was an appropriate time to build another Burger King in the area, despite the presence of one in nearby Florence.
