A $69 million budget for fiscal year 2021-22 has been approved for the city of Apache Junction.
The City Council voted unanimously at a special meeting June 14 to approve the budget that runs July 1, 2021-June 30, 2022, with Councilor Braden Biggs absent.
“I would agree that we need to keep transportation in our conversations. That being said, ‘yes,’” Vice Mayor Christa Rizzi said in voting on the budget.
The vote and her comment came after two residents said they were concerned there is no funding for public transportation.
“As far as the budget goes, I think it should be sent back to a work session and maybe look over a few things that are needed in the city,” Jeff Barlett said during the public hearing on the budget. “(P)ublic transportation: I feel like something needs to be done about it. We have people in this town who don’t have transportation and I feel like we should do what we can to help them out.”
