Each year, Ranking Arizona magazine conducts the state’s biggest and most comprehensive business opinion poll. Ranking Arizona is based purely on opinion and ranks companies based on how voters answer this simple question: “With whom would you recommend doing business?” Each year, some of the categories that attract the most voters include categories focused on the best places to work in Arizona, the best places to live, and the companies with the best workplace culture.
Workplace culture has never been more important than it is in 2021, so Az Business analyzed the results of the Ranking Arizona voting and compiled a list of the “100 Best Places to Live and Work in Arizona for 2021.” These are the 100 companies and cities that got the most votes. The companies and cities are listed in alphabetical order. Over the next several weeks, we will spotlight some of the best places to work in Arizona with video interviews featuring company leaders, including Katie Haydon Perry, executive vice president of Haydon Building Corp.
Haydon Building Corp.
What the company does: Haydon Building Corp is one of the largest general contractors in the southwest performing building, heavy civil and landscape construction.
Inside the company culture: “Culture is something really difficult to define, but once you do, that’s it,” says Katie Haydon Perry, executive vice president for Haydon. “The magic of having a well-defined culture is how your employees talk about culture and how they feel that sense of belonging. And so for me, that’s exactly what workplace culture is: Something tangible, something you can put words to, something that others can explain out in the marketplace. That’s our culture.”
Sense of family: “We use the word family quite a bit because Haydon is a family business,” Haydon Perry says, “so we really try to incorporate family into everything that we do. We treat everybody that works with us, for us, around us, as family. And so for us, that means we’ve got each other’s backs always.”
