The Gilbert Town Council will hold a study session on June 15 on regional homelessness.
The session starts at 5:15 p.m.
Metropolitan areas — particularly in the western states —- have seen a marked rise in homelessness in recent years. That rise has been magnified and challenged by the coronavirus pandemic.
The pandemic and all its economic and social fallouts have challenged homeless shelters and social services agencies as well as magnifying mental health and addiction challenges.
The Valley’s homeless and transient population also has to deal with the Phoenix region’s intense summer heat.
The council will talk about local and regional approaches to the homelessness issue and will be updated on the impacts of the pandemic.
