Resolutions needed before the city of Apache Junction can annex land to the south including recently auctioned Arizona State Trust Land were approved recently by the City Council.
“It’s going to happen no matter what. The growth is coming whether we annex or not, and we need to annex it and make it ours,” Councilor Tess Nesser said during a June 15 meeting.
A total of 2,783.13 acres south and adjacent to Apache Junction sold for $245.5 million to Arlington, Texas-based homebuilder D.R. Horton Inc. in a live auction Nov. 4 in Florence. The auctioned property between Elliot Avenue, Idaho Road, Ray Avenue and Meridian Drive — in unincorporated Pinal County — is included in property from Baseline Road to the future State Route 24 alignment and Meridian Drive to the Central Arizona Project canal that Apache Junction officials plan to annex into the municipality.
