Tempe looks at big Broadway Curve project, future maintenance of freeway stretch

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The Tempe City Council will consider an agreement at its Thursday, June 10, meeting related to upgrades to the Broadway Curve area of Interstate 10.

The council is looking at an agreement outlining jurisdictional responsibilities for maintenance of the busy highway stretch of I-10 between I-17 and the Loop 202 freeway.

The agreement looks at what the city, state and flood district organizations are responsible for in the 11-mile stretch for an area that is key to the region’s economic development.

The Broadway Curve area is near Arizona State University in Tempe, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and numerous office and industrial parks.

The Arizona Department of Transportation expects to start a three-year construction effort on the Broadway Curve project next year.

The council will get a project update and look at entering a maintenance agreement with the state at its Thursday meeting.
